Christmas is almost over...
Let me tell you something about Christmas in Puerto Rico... They last almost two months! Yes! TWO MONTHS! It is exhausting. Christmas usually starts on Thanksgiving Week. Then we have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, New Years Eve, Three Kings Day and the "Octavitas". Between every Holiday we have lots of Christmas parties with family and friends. That means that you have a minimum of two parties per weekend. Christmas parties in Puerto Rico are synonymous of a lot of food, music and alcohol. People here usually gain 5-10 pounds on this time of the year. Yeah, I know it is extremely absurd and unhealthy, but the food is delicious. :)
What I like the most about this time of the year is the "parrandas". Here a group of people gather to sing happy (and sometimes naughty) Christmas songs. It is a happy time where Puerto Ricans get together and have fun. We have a lot of traditions during Christmas time and it is a very happy and fun time.
*These aren't the real instruments we use for "parrandas". They are more professional, these aren't.
Yesterday, we celebrated Three Kings Day. No, Christmas isn't over yet! We have left like eight more days called "Octavitas" coming from the eight number. I started school today, and I'm hoping to catch up on some notebooks that I have pending. Being the busiest time of the year, and having a LOT of Christmas parties, it is exhausting! But I DID had a lot of fun. Now I'm ready to go back to "my normal life" and get some rest.
What about your Christmas? Do you celebrate this much??
